Hayder Al Shakeri

Hayder Al Shakeri is a Research Fellow at Chatham House specializing in political economy, governance, youth engagement, and social movements in Iraq and the broader MENA region. His work focuses on the relationship between state institutions, civic participation, and political change.
He has worked with international organizations, government institutions, civil society actors, journalists, and activists on initiatives related to youth participation, civic engagement, governance, and political development across the region. Previously, he contributed to programs with the United Nations, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and other international organizations in Iraq and the wider MENA region. His analysis and commentary on Iraqi affairs have appeared in international media and policy platforms, including CNN, BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and ISPI. Hayder is based in London, United Kingdom.
